The Reds offense sputtered out over the last 2 games against Miami. The offense continues to prove itself as the biggest issue with the team's make up. They sent four hitters up to the plate with an average below the Mendoza line on Thursday, and five hitters falling into the same stat category on Wednesday. That is unacceptable to me. You can not operate as an organization with close to, if not give over, 50% of your hitters are hitting .200 or even worse. This is the point where I hope to see some changes made. The Reds play 6 games in 7 days, all at home. If there are no moved made today to elevate an outfield AAA bat I will be disappointed. I do not realistically see the Reds doing that today, but if they offense stinks tonight I would like to believe we see some transactions before Saturday's game. This series the Reds sent out Burns, Williamson, and Abbott. Let's talk about it!
Chase Burns has received all my praises so far as a starter in 2026. He has allowed just 1 run over 11 innings, which is essentially what was needed from him seen how he has received little to no run support. 16K's through 11 innings and only 4 BB's is very impressive. He has all the tools needed to become not only the best pitcher in the Reds organization, but the best pitcher in the division. Yes, I do think he has a very realistic shot to take that spot from Paul Skenes.
Tonight Burns will face off with Jack Kochanowicz. He is 1-0 on the season with a no decision in his worst, and first, outing thus far. He threw a solid 5.2 innings against a talented Seattle roster in his last outing leading the Angels to a 1-0 win. I am not sure what to expect out of him tonight. Will we see the pitcher that got tatted for 6 runs in 4 innings, or will the Reds be shut out as the Angels enter the bullpen. I know what my gut is telling me. The first team to score tonight will win. I don't think there will be many runs to be had tonight so if the Reds want to come out on top they need to start fast.
The Reds sit at 8-5 and 0.5 games behind Milwaukee and a game or more up on everyone else. That is also how I see the season being. The Reds and Brewers swapping 1st and 2nd place all season with Pittsburgh and Chicago fighting for 3rd and St Louis finishing 5th. I would love to see the Reds win 4 of 6 this weekend ideally winning both series. I think this is going to be one of the easier home stands of the year. The Angels do not impress me and the Giants are still figuring out how their season is going to go. Going 4 and 2 this weekend and early next week is the minimum, but if the Reds could pick up a sweep that would go a long way.
Prediction:
Burns 7.0 IP, 3H, 1R, 2BB, 10K
Suarez goes deep
Stephenson has a 2 hit game
Stewart stays hot with a double and RBI
I am trying to will the offense to success so I may as well keep that up with my score prediction.
Reds: 6
Angels: 1
