The Spurs could do nothing wrong last night. The Knicks earned everything that they got. The second set of game twos tip off tonight in Detroit followed by a late tip in Oklahoma City. Let's talk about it all!
Wednesday Night Games
San Antonio Spurs DEF Minnesota Timberwolves 133-95 (Series Tied 1-1)
This game was never in doubt for the Spurs. They lead wire to wire with a lead as large as forty seven. All their starters were in double figures, Wemby recorded fifteen rebounds. The team shot fifty percent from the field, forty one percent from three and eighty two percent from the free throw line. Not much went right for the Wolves. The leading scorers for the Wolves had just twelve points. They got out rebounded, turned the ball over more, got smoked giving up twenty nine fast break points scoring just five themselves. Ayo Dosunmu came into the game with an injury designation. He exited the game with injury in the first half. Edwards appears to be on a minute restriction as well. Two guys that have been massive parts to the success of the Timberwolves so far are unable to play a full game. Game three is Friday night and the Wolves need Dosunmu to get healthy for it. I would also like to see the minute restriction lifted allowing Edwards to play as many minutes as he is able.
New York Knicks DEF Philadelphia 76ers 108-102 (NYK Lead Series 2-0)
This game was a battle. Back and forth until the last few minutes. Each team won a quarter in the first half. The 76ers winning the first quarter by two, the Knicks answering back winning the second quarter by one. The halftime lead is just one for the 76ers. Both teams scored twenty eight in the third. The Knicks won the forth quarter which ultimately won them the game. There were just thirty one points scored in the forth quarter combined by both teams, the Knicks scoring nineteen of them.
The biggest shock to me was the fact that Joel Embiid did not suit up. He was probable in the morning before being ruled out and listed a day to day in the early afternoon. It begs the question if the 76ers would have been able to win game two if he played. I said I couldn't see a world he didn't play in game two, and I'll say it again for game three. Staring a 3-0 deficit in the face, the 76ers need anyone and everyone to contribute in game three.
Thursday Night Game 2's
Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons - 7:00 pm EST on Prime Video
A strong start from the Pistons followed by the Cavaliers battling through the next three quarters lead to an exciting game one. What should we expect tonight? I believe the Cavaliers are the better team in this series and game one didn't change that thought. I think it proved it. While they did lose the game by ten points, they played three strong quarters after battling through a seven game series against the Raptors. Now yes, the Pistons also won their first series in seven games. They started game one out hot and coasted to the finish line. I think tonight we see four strong quarters out of the Cavs and a Pistons team that plays sluggish.
Prediction:
Cavaliers: 108
Pistons: 94
Los Angeles Lakers at Oklahoma City Thunder - 9:30 pm EST on Prime
Unfortunately for the Lakers, I think the second half of game one will also prove to be how the series goes. The Thunder are the most complete team in the league and the Lakers are still waiting for Luka to return. Add to that Luke Kennard and Jarred Vanderbilt popping up on the injury report, the Lakers depth is running thin. I think that plays a big factor in tonight's game. The Lakers are going to need more out of their starting line up than they got in game one, and will need guys who don't normally step up to play well. For those reason I think tonight's game gets out of hand.
Prediction:
Thunder: 126
Lakers:101
Check back tomorrow for the recap of tonight's games and the look ahead at game three of the Knicks v 76ers and Wolves v Spurs series.
