The Pistons took down the Magic in a game that was never really that close. The Cavaliers did much of the same to eliminate the Raptors. Both teams will take the day off today to recover before beginning their series against each other. The 76ers travel to take on the Knicks after eliminating the East's betting favorite Celtics. The Wolves head to San Antonio to tangle with Wemby and the Spurs. Plenty to talk about, let's get into it!
Sunday Game 7's
Detroit Pistons DEF Orlando Magic 116-94
For most of this game there was no game. The Pistons and Magic both exchanged runs early in the first half. The Magic won the first quarter taking a lead of just two into the second quarter. That would be all the fight the Magic would show. The Pistons won the second quarter by thirteen, the third quarter by eight and the fourth quarter by three. The Pistons got the lead early in the first half and never gave it back. This was the least eventful of the two games yesterday, but not by much.
Cleveland Cavaliers DEF Toronto Raptors 114-102
Both teams threw their jabs early. The Raptors winning the first quarter by two, the Cavs winning the second quarter by two. Game seven goes to half time tied at forty nine. Who ever started the second half more dominant was going to win this game. The Cavs started the second half on a 7-0 run, followed by an 8-0 run late in the third. These runs gave the Cavs a nineteen point lead heading into the final quarter. With the Cavaliers on cruise control the Raptors showed some fight making up seven points in the final quarter. But seven would not be enough as the Cavaliers advance with a twelve point game seven win.
Monday Game 1's
Philadelphia 76ers at New York Knicks - 8:00 pm EST on NBC
Before the playoffs started it would be hard to believe anyone outside of Philly would have predicted the 76ers to eliminate the Celtics in round one. But, here we are. Philly takes down the Celtics in seven games and earned a dance with the Knicks. These two teams have played four games in the regular season with each winning two of the four. The 76ers won the first two, the Knicks won the second two.
12/19/2025 - 76ers over Knicks 116-107
1/3/2026 - 76ers over Knicks 130-119
1/24/2026 - Knicks over 76ers 112-109
2/11/2026 - Knicks over 76ers 138-89
I had the Celtics moving on to the Eastern Conference Finals, and obviously it is time to adjust that pick. I think the easy pick here is to take the Knicks to advance in five or six games. Taking the 76ers over the Celtics in game seven was a real hold your breath pick. It's time to hold my breath again. Give me the 76ers to take the series against the Knicks and advancing to their first ECF in twenty five years!
Prediction:
Philadelphia 76ers over New York Knicks (4-2)
Minnesota Timberwolves at San Antonio Spurs - 9:30 pm EST on Peacock
The Spurs made quick work of the Trail Blazers in their first round matchup winning the series in just five games. The Timberwolves needed an extra game to send the Nuggets home. That series win over the Nuggets didn't come with out a price. The Wolves lost Donte DiVincenzo for the remainder of the playoffs. They have also been without Anthony Edwards since game four. Edwards has been ruled out for the first two games of this series, but there is a growing confidence he will return when the Timberwolves play at home for game three. That makes this series quite interesting. The Wolves were able to win the opening round series missing two of their start for the final two games. This series with San Antonio will be a whole different ball game. The Spurs have Wemby, who like Jokic, is a nightmare on both ends of the floor. Taking down a player like Wemby is an all hands on deck mission and with Edwards out and Dosunmu questionable, the Spurs have a clear advantage to open the semi finals. The season series points in a different direction, albeit both teams were full strength for the regular season matchups.
11/30/2025 - Timberwolves over Spurs 125-112
1/11/2026 - Timberwolves over Spurs 104-103
1/17/2026 - Spurs over Timberwolves 126-123
Unlike the 76ers advancing, I had predicted both teams in this series to advance to this point. Since I had this series predicted to happen I have to stick with my original prediction. Do the injuries the Wolves are currently battling scare me? Absolutely, beating Wemby full strength is hard enough. But being the man of integrity I am, I must stick with the pre playoff prediction. I will be taking the Timberwolves to beat the Spurs in six games.
Prediction:
Minnesota Timberwolves over San Antonio Spurs (4-2)
Stay tuned tomorrow morning for the recap of both games tonight as well as insight into the other two semi final series!
